As a father of 4 kids, currently 5 and under, and someone who has experienced the great happiness life brings intermingled with the shock of unexpected loss, grief and trauma, I understand some of the challenges life brings. Through my journey I have continued to grow professionally and build myself to be the best version of me that I can be.
I am a dedicated educator and healthcare professional with over 20 years of experience in training, teaching, outdoor education, and emergency healthcare. My passion lies in enhancing community, empowering others through shared experiences and knowledge and aligning training with meaningful and purpose driven outcomes.
Stories shape who we are, and I believe in the power of sharing them to make a difference. Throughout my career, I’ve been committed to creating spaces where individuals can share their experiences and be heard. I actively work to create positive learning environments that assist teams, community groups and individuals develop essential life skills in first aid, emergency preparedness, and shared conversations that assist in shaping people’s views and knowledge relating to mental health.
Through the delivery of practical based application of learning and skills development, My personal experience has taught me the vital importance of equipping individuals and teams with the skills to respond thoughtfully to challenges and keeping a person centred approach to outcomes.
This personal insight, and experience, drives my commitment to creating comprehensive training programs that address basic first aid, physical and mental health needs in professional environments.
My journey spans training, education, healthcare and adventure travel, giving me a unique perspective on the purpose behind learning authentically and for purpose. As a registered paramedic, trainer and teacher, I’ve had the privilege of working across small and large businesses, state and private schools, TAFE’s, universities and the corporate sectors. This diverse experience has allowed me to understand and meet the varying needs of both individuals and groups across a wide variety of cultures and environments.
What continues to draw me to the training sector is the purposeful nature that underpins it. The people involved, the mission behind their learning and the potential to assist in delivering transformative experience through sessions. I’ve witnessed countless moments where people discover their true capabilities, often in unexpected situations, that become powerful learning and growing opportunities. These experiences have occurred far beyond the traditional classroom and, in some cases, have created lasting impacts that have shaped future decisions and outcomes.
Simon uses his 12+ years experience as a practicing clinician and additional time as an educator, to adapt to a range of different corporate roles. He has a natural ability to work with a broad range of people, as he can adapt to, and work effectively across many different types of cultural and societal boundaries.
I can highly recommend the sensational work of Simon Hastings. He’s excellent in business but also gives back to the community through K’Sparkle and Dads Group. To find out more about this, read his stories on the Humans in Geelong Website or watch his video on the Humans in Geelong Online Expo 2020. Thanks so much Simon.

Simon has a natural ability to connect with students of all ages. He creates connection through determining what the student is interested in, the curriculum link (if applicable), and is always calm and engaging with his approach. Simon places a great deal of importance of listening and observing to best create the connection

Today, I combine my experience in emergency healthcare with my passion for education through the courses and services KsafeT delivers. I maintain active involvement in the pre-hospital care community, training, teaching and adventure travel sector and I continue to develop and grow. In 2025 I will begin a Graduate Certificate in Healthcare in Remote and Extreme Environments through the University of Tasmania. I see this as an opportunity that will allow me to stay connected with industry experts, teachers, and health professionals in the pre-hospital and emergency care sector, while KsafeT advances in knowledge that seeks to actively contribute to the development of first aid and safety within community and organisations.
I remain committed to creating educational experiences that inspire both groups and individuals, helping people realize their potential and build capacity to feel confident in times of distress.
Personal, lived and life experience shape my approach. Integrating my experiences into KsafeT to provide Mental Health awareness, adventure travel, safety and emergency response capabilities is a valuable service that I am passionate about and well qualified to deliver.
